Kaparos: (lit. "atonements"); atonement ceremony performed before Yom Kippur, traditionally while holding a fowl, fish or money which is then given to charity.

When doing so with money, say: “zeh chalifasi, zeh temurasi, zeh kaparasi, zeh ha-kessef yeilech litzdaka va’ani ekaneis l’chaim tovim arukim u’le-shalom.” “This is my exchange, this is my substitute, this is my atonement – this money shall go to tzedaka and I shall enter into a long and good life and to peace.”
